Hugh Sanders is
an associate at
SG&S.
He was born in Sturgis, Michigan. He received
his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business (summa cum laude)
from Indiana University (Bloomington) in 1975, and his Juris Doctor
Degree (cum laude) in 1978, also from Indiana University (Bloomington).
He also has pursued graduate level business courses at University of
Southern California, has taught real estate licensing classes, and has
conducted estate and tax planning seminars.
Mr. Sanders’ practice
is in the representation of businesses in general corporate and real
estate transactional matters, and individuals in estate planning, trust,
probate, and business succession planning. His real estate practice
areas include commercial landlord and tenant matters, and the sale,
purchase, use, and development of residential and commercial properties,
general contractor agreements, and entity formation agreements. His
corporate representation includes small to mid-size corporations, partnerships,
and limited liability companies engaged in a variety of industries.
Mr. Sanders’ estate and tax planning representation includes utilization
of probate-avoidance techniques as well as estate tax minimization structures
for high net worth clients. Prior to practicing law in California, Mr.
Sanders was a corporate financial specialist, serving as strategic planning
manager, controller, tax manager, and vice president of finance for
several privately and publicly-held companies.
As a member of the Planned
Giving Roundtable of Orange County, the Estate and Gifts Committee of
The Laguna Canyon Foundation, the Hoag Hospital Endowment Council, the
Gift Planning Council of the University of California-Irvine, and the
Board of Advisors of Canning Hunger, Inc., Mr. Sanders has been actively
engaged in developing effective partnerships between charitable organizations
and their individual and business supporters. He is also a strategic
partner of Succession Strategies®
and Business Growth Alliance, groups of allied professionals providing
services and counseling to small and family-owned businesses regarding
the challenges presented by multi-generational estate planning and business
succession needs.
